The Race
The Race Across the West (RAW) is the second longest Race Across America (RAAM) qualifier, with riders completing an epic race across the desert and mountains of the American west in fewer than four days. Starting in Oceanside, California, RAW spans 930 miles climbing the Coastal Range, dropping into the scorching desert and eventually climbing through the Rocky Mountains and finishing in Durango, Colorado. As it is on the same course as RAAM, RAW covers what is considered the toughest portion of RAAM - “The World’s Toughest Bicycle Race.”
Open to amateur and professional racers in solo, two-, and four-person relay teams, RAW is unlike other famous races such as the Giro de Italia and Tour de France, as RAW has no stages. As a solo endeavor, RAW is one of the longest endurance cycling events in the world. It has become a huge platform for racers to raise awareness and money for charities of their choice.
The Reason
We’re cycling for water. In June 2024, our single-rider is taking on the American west—riding more than 930 miles across California, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado to raise awareness and money for clean water and safe sanitation. Funds raised will go to Water For People, an organization that promotes the development of high-quality drinking water and sanitation services, accessible to all, and sustained by strong communities, businesses, and governments.
Please join us by supporting our efforts and donating to help us meet our goal of $30,000. Every dollar counts. Thank you so much for your contribution.
Our Rider
Walter Migdal will have 95 hours to finish an 862-mile course from Oceanside, California to Durango, Colorado. An all-EA crew will support him throughout the race. Ultra-cycling is addictive, so this year Walt is back for more!
